Learn To Row Camp
Is Rowing For You? Come Find Out!
Have you been trying to decide if rowing is the sport for you, but don’t want to make a commitment before you even know if you will like it? Then this is for you…
The Mt. Lebanon HS Rowing team is offering you the opportunity to attend our Learn-to-Row camp. No Experience Necessary! The week-long camp is open to all MTLSD students entering Grades 8-12 and will give you the chance to find out more about the sport and to actually try it out. And we offer two sessions, so if you cannot make one, you have another option.
The camp will consist of:
- Land time getting an overview of rowing and touring the boathouse
- Learning the basics of the stroke on a rowing machine
- Practice carrying the shell to the dock and placing in the water so you know how to handle the equipment
- Finally, getting on the water in a racing shell and having on-water practice time (multiple sessions)
By the time the camp ends you will have gotten a full hands-on experience, similar to what the team does everyday at practice. And you will know a lot more about rowing than you did on Day 1.
We will be offering the camp twice this summer, so if one of the weeks doesn’t work for you there is an alternate session to make it. And if you liked it the first time, feel free to return again for another week.
NOTE: A swim test is required prior to getting on the water. We arrange the test.
